It is important for you to follow these guidelines before your procedure to prevent delay or cancellations.
Your surgeon’s office will schedule your surgery for a specific date. ASCW will call you one business day before to confirm your arrival time and surgery time. We make every effort to accommodate each patient, but there may be medical priorities for others that will need earlier times.
Please notify your surgeon if your condition changes (cough, fever, etc.) before surgery, and do not come to the center.
After your case is scheduled, an ASCW financial coordinator will:
Payment policies: Bank check or credit card payments may be made at registration. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and bank debit cards. We do not accept cash. Make checks payable to: The Ambulatory Surgery Center of Westchester (or The ASCW).
Important: Surgery may be canceled if your financial obligation is not paid in full prior to the procedure.
ASCW Preadmission Nurse — calls to review your medical history and instructions (10–20 min). Reach the nurse with questions at (914) 244-6779.
Anesthesiologist — available by phone or in-person appointment to address any anesthetic concerns.
Primary Care Physician / Specialist — may need to evaluate you and order labs (blood work, EKG, x-rays). Complete testing at least 5 days before surgery.
If you receive sedation or general anesthesia, you must have a responsible adult (18+) escort you home. We strongly recommend they remain with you for the first 24 hours.
Important: Surgery may be canceled if you do not have a responsible adult to escort you home. A taxi or rideshare driver does not qualify.
Please leave non-patient children at home with a caregiver. Children are not allowed in clinical areas, and childcare is not available.
Standard instructions (most adult patients): Do not eat or drink anything after midnight. You may brush your teeth without swallowing.
Generally, take your usual prescription medications the morning of surgery with a small sip of water. Patients on diabetes medications, blood thinners, or diuretics should consult their physician.
Bring “urgent medications” (insulin, inhalers, nitroglycerin) with you. Continue inhalers as prescribed.
Patients and household members should avoid smoking 24–48 hours before surgery to reduce breathing complications. Pediatric patients are especially sensitive to secondhand smoke.
Plan to arrive at the time given by ASCW — usually one hour before your scheduled surgery start. If you are not feeling well the day before or the day of surgery, call your surgeon’s office immediately and do not come into the surgery center.
